CHEMTREC Test Call

Quite often, the first time a caller interacts with CHEMTREC is during the chaos of an actual emergency. So to help callers know what to do during times of crisis, CHEMTREC offers the ability to set up a test call with our Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

When you aren’t prepared, mistakes happen. CHEMTREC’s test call program familiarizes your team with our process by walking them through a mock emergency situation. By ensuring that they know what to expect from a call to CHEMTREC, the chaos of an actual emergency is minimized. The drill program is comprehensive, with exercises that simulate exactly how CHEMTREC’s Emergency Service Specialists (ESS) respond to actual emergency calls.

Potential customers, registrants, companies, government officials, carriers and emergency responders all benefit from the hands on experience. By walking through the motions of an actual chemical emergency response, they will have a better understanding of how CHEMTREC assists in these situations, as well as what resources and services we offer.

With their energy density and clean-energy capabilities, the potential for lithium batteries to change the world is clear and demand for them is increasing across the globe. The U.S. Department of Energy projects the lithium battery market to grow by a factor of five to ten over the next decade, including the deployment of over one trillion lithium batteries for electric vehicles and other mobility devices.

Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) should be periodically reviewed and revised as necessary. Every country/ jurisdiction provides guidance on when a safety data sheet should be updated and very few specify a timeline for periodic review. Most jurisdictions are in general agreement that a review or update is necessary as new information becomes available that could impact the accuracy of and protection provided by the SDS.

CHEMTREC® is pleased to announce we are offering two scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each for the following award recipients “Hazmat Officer of the Year” and the “Hazmat Instructor of the Year” to attend the 2022 Hazardous Materials Instructors and Commanders (HMIC) Conference hosted by Hazard3 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on November 13-16, 2022.

Our goal is to always be the top resource for emergency responders, so we want to hear from responders on what we do best, what we could improve upon, and what additional resources we could provide that would be beneficial. Through the CHEMTREC® Emergency Responder Survey we will be able to continue to enhance our services and features to best support all first responders during hazmat incidents. The survey will be open from March 1 - November 1, 2022.

1918

Responding to a series of railway accidents involving shipments of corrosive liquids vital to war efforts, the Manufacturing Chemists’ Association (MCA) forms a committee devoted to the improvement of liquid chemical shipping containers.

1932

MCA begins a comprehensive program of Safety Manuals and Safety Data Sheets. Each data sheet details a product’s physical and chemical properties, its hazards, instructions on safe handling and first-aid treatment, required labeling or identification, and methods of unloading and emptying various types of containers.
