With their energy density and clean-energy capabilities, the potential for lithium batteries to change the world is clear and demand for them is increasing across the globe. The U.S. Department of Energy projects the lithium battery market to grow by a factor of five to ten over the next decade, including the deployment of over one trillion lithium batteries for electric vehicles and other mobility devices.
Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) should be periodically reviewed and revised as necessary. Every country/ jurisdiction provides guidance on when a safety data sheet should be updated and very few specify a timeline for periodic review. Most jurisdictions are in general agreement that a review or update is necessary as new information becomes available that could impact the accuracy of and protection provided by the SDS.
CHEMTREC® is pleased to announce we are offering two scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each for the following award recipients “Hazmat Officer of the Year” and the “Hazmat Instructor of the Year” to attend the 2022 Hazardous Materials Instructors and Commanders (HMIC) Conference hosted by Hazard3 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on November 13-16, 2022.
Our goal is to always be the top resource for emergency responders, so we want to hear from responders on what we do best, what we could improve upon, and what additional resources we could provide that would be beneficial. Through the CHEMTREC® Emergency Responder Survey we will be able to continue to enhance our services and features to best support all first responders during hazmat incidents. The survey will be open from March 1 - November 1, 2022.
The U.S. Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) updated their Lithium Battery Test Summary Brochure. This document may be used as a compliance assistance tool to assist manufacturers and distributors with understanding and implementing the TS requirement.
