Guidelines for Registration

CHEMTREC makes it simple to register. Just read and follow the easy guidelines.

  1. Complete the Registration Agreement online or in hardcopy
The CHEMTREC Registration Agreement describes the terms for CHEMTREC registration. It can be filled out online or else you can contact CHEMTREC Customer Service at (800) 262-8200 to have a hardcopy faxed or e-mailed to you.  The person signing the agreement, whether online or in hardcopy, will be committing the company to the terms of the Registration Agreement. If using hardcopy, the original signed Agreement should be returned to CHEMTREC by mail or fax to:

American Chemistry Council/CHEMTREC Registration,1300 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, VA  22209 USA  Fax: 703-741-6037

  2. Provide Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs)
Provide copies of all MSDSs for the HAZMAT products being shipped (prior to their first shipment) and provide any new or updated MSDSs to keep CHEMTREC files current. The product-specific MSDSs are one of the primary resources used during emergencies involving hazardous materials and it is critical that the Registrant keep these updated with CHEMTREC. CHEMTREC prefers MSDSs to be in electronic format, although hard copies are also accepted.

  3. Provide Administrative Contact
CHEMTREC requires one (1) Administrative Contact person to serve as the point of contact for all administrative matters related to your CHEMTREC account, including correspondences and billing. This Administrative Contact should be familiar with CHEMTREC and the Registration Agreement, and be responsible for the maintenance of the Registrant's records. The Administrative Contact has the option of designating a separate Billing Contact person and address for receipt of the CHEMTREC invoices.

  4. Provide Emergency Contacts
Incidents involving your products will usually require the conveyance of information and expertise to the caller or first responder. In most cases, the experienced and trained CHEMTREC staff is able to provide the needed assistance, utilizing the previously-submitted MSDS content, supplemented by CHEMTREC's network of resources and expertise. On occasion, the nature of the incident or a request by the first responder may necessitate contact with the shipper's emergency contact personnel. CHEMTREC has two options available for registering the emergency contacts that we need from your company. You may provide us with a 24-hour phone number for your facility (24-hour guard station, etc.) or a minimum of (3) emergency contacts with the Registrant who may be reached 24-hours a day, with home, work and/or pager phone numbers. All contacts should have knowledge of the products' proper emergency response procedures and disposition instructions for damaged shipments, and have the ability to contact the appropiate resources within the company. Contacts with product manufacturers may be called to provide product formulation, or health and safety information beyond that included on the MSDS.

  5. Keep company information with CHEMTREC current
To ensure that 24-hour emergency contacts are current for the Registrant company, update CHEMTREC (by website, e-mail, fax or mail) when there is any change in the names or telephone numbers of the emergency contacts, or in the name(s) of the Registrant or its affiliated companies. You can check your contact listing any time by visiting www.chemtrec.com. Then, enter your CHEMTREC-supplied user-id and password to sign on. If you do not know your password call our Customer Service representatives.

  6. Special Disposition Instructions
In some cases, shippers may prefer minor product releases be handled following prearranged instruction provided to CHEMTREC, particularly when these minor incidents occur during non-business hours.  You have the option of pre-advising CHEMTREC with your instructions, to be conveyed by CHEMTREC to the scene of an incident.

Notification of Authorities

In some instances, federal, state and local laws require responsible parties to report releases of certain hazardous materials. CHEMTREC does not assume responsibilities for notification of those authorities in the event of a hazardous materials release; however, we are able to refer you to resources that can assist you with those requirements.

Carrier Notification

CHEMTREC also has special programs available to immediately provide notification to carriers if their vehicle is involved in an incident.
